A coastal geomorphologist, project manager, science writer, and the author of several novels, Sonny has an extensive background in environmental management and community engagement in Vanuatu, Australia, and New Zealand.
She holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Sustainable Management from NZ Polytech, MA Science and communications from Queensland University of Technology and Cert. IV Adult Education/Stakeholder Identification and Engagement from Queensland TAFE.
She also has an MA Coastal Geomorphology/Climate Change from University of Sydney and a BA Geography and Anthropology, also from University of Sydney.
Sonny works with communities and businesses to develop collaborative biodiversity restoration projects and climate change adaptation strategies.
Her extensive project work includes working as Manager and web designer for BRaid NZ, and developing a NZ Schools teaching resource on river birds.
She worked on community led project to remove invasive predators with Predator Free Hanmer Springs and is experienced in disaster resiliency and response with Social and community impacts of the Canterbury earthquakes.
Sonny has worked on a range of community led conservation projects such as the Chatterton River Restoration Plan while her collaborative projects includes the collaborative book project Celebrating Biodiversity in the Hurunui District and collaborative citizen science with Nina Valley EcoBlitz which received the NZ Ministry for the Environment Green Ribbon Award for Communications and Education and the Supreme Green Ribbon Award.
Her notable work on climate change includes examining the Vulnerability of Tuhaitara Coastal Park to rising sea levels.Our team
