Sean is a UK-based freelance ecologist specialising in the Lepidoptera, with a comprehensive knowledge and field experience of all species throughout the British Isles gained over 35 years, plus a developing knowledge of NZ species attained over recent seasons carrying out volunteer survey work for Landcare Research.
He was a site manager for Kent Wildlife Trust & Natural England and an independent consultant/advisor to Natural England & Butterfly Conservation.
He was instrumental in developing targeted habitat creation/enhancement projects in Kent and has a working knowledge of other groups of invertebrates, birds, and vascular plants in the UK.
Qualified as National Migrant Lepidoptera Recorder & collator of the annual reports on migrant Lepidoptera for the Entomologist’s Record & Atropos, he is also Council member of the British Entomological & Natural History Society and macro-moth recorder of exhibits at their Annual Exhibition.
A professional consultant field-working and reporting under contract for over 20 years on endangered species and site assessments in England, he was lead author of ‘Moths of Great Britain & Ireland’, and co-author of the field guide to the ‘Pyralid & Crambid Moths of Britain’ (in print).
He is the Co-founder and assistant editor of the Atropos journal and currently lead ecologist in ongoing monitoring/habitat restoration projects on four highly threatened species in south-east England.
