Ian has extensive experience of practical integrated land management in the Scottish Uplands and complements this with the latest GIS and survey technology.
Qualified with an MSc in Forestry from Oxford and BSc in Agriculture at Imperial, he specialises in Forest and Land Management Plans with a portfolio of completed plans that extends to over 60,000Ha.
His Land Management Planning experience covers a wide range of landowners and scales, from the 50Ha award award-winning privately owned Senwick Woodland to the 10,000Ha Glen Lochy and Glen Orchy Land Management Plan for Forestry and Land Scotland.
Ian also specialises in woodland creation turning the vision into reality from survey, design, planning, grant applications through to managing operations on the ground.
Among his projects are the Carradale Land Management Plan for Forestry & Land Scotland which is a 6703 ha project of mixed forestry reconciling Golden Eagle habitat, renewable energy and recreational issues.
Ian has also managed the project design, Environmental Impact Assessment, screening request report and the full Environmental Statement for the creation of the 354 ha Doddington Moor Woodland in Northumberland.
He has been extensively involved in the Land Management Plan for the Rest and Be Thankful, for Forestry Scotland and Transport Scotland.
This is a ground-breaking project to establish 250Ha of native woodland as protection forest geared to stabilise the slopes above the A83.
